Jungfraujoch is the very definition of the last stop. When you reach the station, at a height of 3,454, metres the line ends, having bored its way from Kleine Scheidegg through the core of the Eiger.
Quite why they went to so much trouble I’m not quite sure; but then why climb the Eiger’s North Face or take a rocket ship to the Moon? … And I’m glad they did as it would have been quite a hike!
Enveloped in mist at the top, no picture postcard views for our fellow passengers, but as clouds drifted in and out, drama and atmosphere in abundance.
